QUINCY, ILL. -- The Illinois Department of Human Services expects huge cuts if Governor Pat Quinn's budget proposals pass.
Glenda Farkas is the Executive Director of West Central Illinois Center for Independent Living.
That agency specializes in helping people ages 18-59 move out of nursing homes and on their own.
Farkas says her agency helps about 100 residents from Adams County to McDonough County.
She says by moving people out of nursing homes, the agency saves the state about $2 million each year.
Farkas tells KHQA her agency expects to lose about $7000 if Gov. Quinn's cuts are approved.
"It's gonna definitely mean a change in service and the reduction of services. Our fear is going to be where the cuts take place," according to Farkas.
Marcia Holmes heavily relies on the Center's services.
She has MS.
She told KHQA if it wasn't for the agency, she doesn't know what she would do.
"They have helped me get out of a nursing home and into an apartment,"said Holmes.
Farkas says her goal is to not cut staff.
Farkas says employees will pull double duties, if need be, to make sure serviced still are maintained.
