SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The National Library of Medicine has awarded a $36,000 grant to Simmons Cooper Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.
The institute plans to use the money to develop online resources about cancer prevention, education and awareness.
The institute staff hopes to gather Web resources for use by health care professionals as well as by the general public.
A new Web site will go online later this year.
Cancer institute director Dr. K. Thomas Robbins says the online tools will benefit rural and underserved communities in central and southern Illinois.
