CHICAGO, ILL. (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is continuing his tour of Illinois schools just days after calling for an income tax increase to prevent deep education cuts.

Quinn is scheduled to visit Andrew Jackson Language Academy in Chicago on Friday morning.

There he is expected to talk more about his education priorities and about the importance of fitness and fighting childhood obesity.

The Democratic governor has proposed a budget that would cut $1.3 billion from education unless lawmakers raise the income tax rate one percentage point.

Quinn is trying to drum up support for the tax increase that key lawmakers show little interest in wanting to pass.

Republicans generally oppose an increase, and many Democrats are reluctant to raise taxes in an election year.
