One project complete, another underway
MACOMB, ILL. -- One set of renovations at McDonough District Hospital has ended and another has begun.
Renovations to surgical services on the first floor, have been completed.
New recovery areas were created so surgery and recovery could be kept in one section.
Now the focus has moved to the west side of the hospital.
An elevator shaft will be installed where the red emergency canopy is now and the room where the laboratory area is now will hold a new stairway.
The laboratory will be expanded.
The stairway and elevator will bring the hospital into compliance with building code requirements for newly constructed facilities.
"Of course when the hospital was originally built in 1958 everything exceeded code and now we're trying to go up to the next code," said Director of Public Relations John Maguire.
McDonough District hospital is still in the process of drawing up plans for remodeling and expanding the Emergency Room.
Those plans also include adding more parking.
A decision on that project will be made after seeing what finances will be available through national health care funding.
