Quincy School Board members listen to public input after proposing cuts of around 25 assistant coaching positions throughout the district.
QUINCY, ILL -- Many Quincy teachers now know whether they'll have a job for the upcoming school year.
KHQA has learned that many non-tenured teachers received notice Friday whether their contracts would be renewed for next year.
Many non-tenured teachers told KHQA they expected to be told that they would not be asked back.
It is not clear how many teachers have received notice, but the Quincy School Board will make the necessary lay-offs public during a meeting March 24.
Superintendent Lonny Lemon says it would be inappropriate to comment on the personnel actions until the scheduled board meeting.
You'll recall the School District has to chop $3.8 million from next year's budget, due to state funding cuts.
Other proposed cuts include closing the alternative school at Irving School and hiring an outside firm into Quincy to offer those services as well as closing the Teen Pregnancy Services Program.
Recently the School Board announced possible cuts to reduce certain extracurricular assignments of tenured and non-tenured employees, including 25 assistant coaching positions. Other positions affected include six collaborative teacher training Academy staff and a Junior High Department Chair.
Superintendent Lonny Lemon says in the last three years, the district has had to cut a total of seven million dollars.
