FORT DODGE, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say an ice jam on the Des Moines River caused some flooded basements in central Iowa, but officials are preparing for more long-term problems.
Fort Dodge Police spokesman David Beshey says the ice jam caused water to spill over the banks. The ice was cleared around 6 a.m. Sunday and the water was back within its banks.
In Des Moines, officials are anticipating more issues with the Des Moines River.
Bill Stowe is the city's public works director. He says workers have been sandbagging city buildings that are at risk and have set up pumps to help remove water from some neighborhoods.
The Des Moines River is expected to crest Wednesday, reaching almost five feet over flood stage at nearly 29 feet.
