DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- An Israeli diplomat says Israel would be glad to hand over two former Agriprocessors meatpacking supervisors to face felony charges, but only if they can be found.
The men, 45-year-old Hosam Amara and 51-year-old Zeev Levi, are former chicken-line supervisors at the Agriprocessors plant in Postville. They allegedly fled to Israel shortly after a massive immigration raid at the plant in May 2008. They face federal charges of conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants for financial gain and conspiring to obtain false immigration papers.
Orli Gil, Israel's consul general in Chicago, told the Des Moines Register she doubts the delay in finding the two is due to any foot-dragging by her government.
A spokeswoman for Gil's office said it generally would be the United States' responsibility to find exactly where the men are.
