HANNIBAL, MO. -- The city of Hannibal is also known as America's Hometown, but visitors to the city might not know that because there's no signage that says it.

Yet.

The Hannibal Visitors and Convention Bureau is working to change that.

It's working on raising at least $25,000 for the project.

The signs would be placed on both ends of Highways 36 and 61 coming into Hannibal.

Smaller signs would be put up on other roads that come into the city like Highway 79 and Veterans Road.

Right now the HVCB is looking for help from Hannibal service organizations.

"One of the reasons to turn to the service clubs, if you look at things like the Folk Life Festival, National Tom Sawyer Days, that's where they make their money. They make it off our visitors and festivals. I think they'll be willing to turn around and put something back into it," says Beau Hicks.

Beau Hicks says getting the signs is one of his many goals for 2010.
