BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say a Burlington man was shot and wounded by police who were investigating a methamphetamine operation near Wever in southeast Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says 51-year-old Earl Freeman was shot at about 4 a.m. Wednesday when he sprayed the officers with anhydrous ammonia, a fertilizer used to make methamphetamine.
Freeman was taken to the University Hospitals in Iowa City. A hospital spokeswoman says Freeman's condition was not available Wednesday afternoon.
The officers were part of a joint investigation between the Lee County and Southeast Iowa narcotics task forces.
The Department of Criminal Investigation did not return a call seeking comment Wednesday afternoon.
