FLORENCE, ILL. -- River traffic is still backed up along the Illinois River, after a barge collided with the drawbridge in Florence last weekend.
However, the U.S. Coast Guard has opened that area back up to river traffic Tuesday evening.
Crews spent Tuesday unloading grain from the barge hung up on a pier of the bridge.
Bridge inspectors looked over the structure before opening it back up to traffic at around 5 p.m.
There are several vessels trying to get out of that part of the river, but the U.S. Coast Guard tells KHQA they should be cleared out by mid-day Wednesday.
