CHICAGO, ILL. (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is set to announce his pick for his lieutenant governor running mate.

On Thursday, a person familiar with Quinn's selection process told The Associated Press that Quinn is looking at Sheila Simon to fill the spot.

The person didn't want to pre-empt Quinn's announcement Friday and would speak only on condition of anonymity.

Simon is the daughter of the late U.S. Sen. Paul Simon and a former member of the Carbondale City Council.

Democratic Party leaders meet Saturday to make the official pick, and Quinn says he hopes they'll go with his choice.

Party leaders have narrowed the list to 17 candidates, including state Rep. Arthur Turner who finished second in the primary.

Democrats get to pick Quinn's running mate because primary winner Scott Lee Cohen quit amid questions about his past.
