HANNIBAL, MO. -- The following is a news release from the Hannibal Police Department:
On Saturday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m. officers with the Hannibal Police Department were called to the 1600 Block of Hope Street for a domestic disturbance.
Responding officers were later told that a female was attempting to leave the area and a male subject was holding onto her car in an attempt to stop her from doing so.
The officers located the reported car being operated near the area of Hope Street and Richmond Street.
The officer observed a male subject hanging onto the passenger side of the vehicle with the door open as if he was trying to gain entry into the vehicle.
The officer was able to stop the car and investigate the incident.
During the investigation it is believed that the argument started inside a residence in the 1600 Block of Hope over punishment of a child, the male subject became angry and allegedly forced a 33 year old female and her children to leave the residence, after assaulting them.
As the female was trying to get into a nearby vehicle and leave the male subject allegedly attempted to remove the battery to the vehicle, when he was unable to, the female locked herself and her children inside and eventually drove away with the male subject hanging on the side of the vehicle attempting to gain entry.
Arrested at the scene was Michael C Sarvich 42, of Hannibal, he was transported to the Marion County Jail and held on a 24 hour hold on charges of: three counts of Domestic Assault (misdemeanor,) Felonious Restraint, two counts of Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor,) Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony,) and Riding on the Outside of a Motor Vehicle.
The victim a 33 year old female from Hannibal and three children, ages 15, 12 and 11 were not seriously injured and did not require any medical attention.
