URBANA, ILL. (AP) -- Quinn frequently cited Simon's family, including her father, former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon, while telling a crowd about her at the University of Illinois on Monday.
It was one of six campaign stops scheduled for the day.
The governor stressed Simon was chosen for her experience rather her father's.
She is a law professor at Southern Illinois University.
Simon said her primary duty will be helping Quinn address the state's financial problems.
Democratic leaders picked Simon as Quinn's running mate.
The winner of the February primary race, Scott Lee Cohen, dropped out amid questions about his past.
