County has never had a service like this
HANCOCK CO., ILL. -- A much needed and long awaited service will soon come to Hancock County, Illinois.
The Hancock County Public Transportation System could be running within a month.
This will be a door to door service where people in Hancock County can call a 1-800 number to set up a time to be picked up.
Riders can go anywhere with in Hancock county, but can also get a ride within two hours of the county for a non-emergency medical trip, like a doctors appointment.
"There are people out there who either rely on someone to transport them to their appointments or they don't have any means of transportation and so this public transportation system is a much needed service in Hancock County," said Transportation Committee member Melita Finney.
This service will be paid for through state and federal grants as well as county agencies backing it.
As soon as the Illinois Department of transportation signs a grant for this program a start date will be set.
There will be a fee for riders ages six to 59.
