JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- State officials are encouraging Missourians to send in their U.S. Census forms.
Thursday was the target date for completing and sending the 10-question form. Census workers visit the homes of those who do not respond.
The U.S. Census Bureau said 55 percent of Missourians had returned the form by Wednesday evening, compared with 52 percent nationally.
The census is used to allocate legislative districts and distribute federal money. The state risks losing a seat in Congress depending on how its population has changed since the 2000 census.
