SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The oldest brick building in Illinois and the St. Louis region is celebrating 200 years this spring.
Tourists are invited to take a rare tour of the Cahokia structure.
Special walkthroughs of the Nicholas Jarrot Mansion State Historic Site will be April 29, April 30, May 6 and May 7.
They must be scheduled in advance.
The mansion will be open to the public with no reservations required on May 1 and May 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tourists will see the original paint and wallpaper schemes in the 1810 house -- including in the second-floor ballroom.
Jarrot was a fur trader and land speculator whose grand home reflects the owner's regional importance.
Jarrot helped explorers Lewis and Clark find winter quarters in 1803 before the pair set out on their expedition to the West.
