SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Workshops and health fairs are among the events the Illinois Department of Public Health plans as it marks National Minority Health Month in the state.

The department said Wednesday that it also plans screenings and other events as it partners with regional and local health departments and community and faith-based groups.

The goal is to inform about diseases that disproportionately affect minorities, such as certain cancers, heart disease, diabetes and HIV and AIDS.

This year's theme is "Man up for Your Health! Healthy Men Move Our Communities Forward."

The department offered tips for healthy living, including eating healthier, exercising regularly and getting a regular checkup.
