SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The Illinois House has approved a state budget Friday that would increase education spending and hire about 1,100 new government employees. However, there is little new money for other services.
Governor Rod Blagojevich has condemned the budget as stingy, technically flawed and loaded with pork. But he has not spelled out whether he will sign it or veto it when the House formally sends the measure to his desk.
The proposed budget does not include the health care plan he has championed for months.
It also doesn't have the billions Blagojevich says the state needs for new roads, bridges and schools.
The plan also leaves out any relief for the Chicago area's struggling mass transit systems.
