ST. CHARLES, MO. -- A St. Charles County, Missouri judge has set a new date for the murder trial of Manuel Cazares.
Cazares is accused of killing two people inside a Hannibal apartment last year.
That trial is scheduled to begin June 21. But it could be delayed because Marion County prosecutor Tom Redington has asked that a special prosecutor be appointed to the case.
It's not known how long it will take to name a special prosecutor, or how long it will take for that person to prepare for the murder trial.
KHQA is waiting on a reply from Redington about why he asked for a special prosecutor.
Just last week, Judge Ted House rejected a plea deal that would have sent Cazares to prison for 30 years and had him deported from the country after serving his prison sentence.
