CHICAGO (AP) -- Residents who don't mail in their census forms could soon get a personal visit by workers to collect the information.

People have until Friday to mail back their 2010 questionnaires.

If they don't, census workers will start going door to door May 1 to collect the information.

Returning your census form by mail also saves taxpayer dollars.

The Census Bureau says for each 1 percent increase in mailed forms the taxpayers save $85 million because workers don't have to go out to try to reach those people personally.

So far, about 67 percent of American households have filled out and returned their census forms.

The last census in 2000 had a participation rate of 72 percent.
