QUINCY, ILL. -- A tornado siren sounded shortly after midnight Saturday morning, waking many residents on parts of Quincy's north side.

But it turned out to be a false alarm.

KHQA's Rajah Maples spoke with Adams County Emergency Management Director John Simon about what happened.

He said the siren at 23rd and Chestnut near Reservoir Park malfunctioned and went off.

Witnesses told Simon they saw a large clap of lightening, then heard the siren.

Simon says he can't necessarily pinpoint exactly what made it go off, but it appears to have been tied to lightning.

He says the 9-1-1 Center received quite a few phone calls last night after the siren sounded.
