WATERLOO, IOWA -- Military officials offer their condolences for a 53-year-old soldier from Iowa who died last week in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense says Command Sgt. Maj. John Laborde of Waterloo died Thursday.
Officials say Laborde died at Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan after sustaining injuries from a "non-combat related incident."
Laborde was assigned to the 649th Regional Support Group in Cedar Rapids.
First Lt. Michael Meyer of the 103rd Expeditionary Command said in a statement that Laborde had a 31-year career in the military. Meyer said "thoughts and prayers" go out to Laborde's family in Iowa and his fellow soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
