Road closures due to President Obama's visit

QUINCY, ILL. -- The following is a press release from the Department of Police, City of Quincy:

As has been widely disseminated through the local media, President Obama will be holding a Town Hall Meeting at the Oakley Lindsay Center on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010.  The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:00 p.m.  Due to security concerns, there will be numerous street closures in the immediate area of the event.  The following streets will be closed to parking beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010:  

3rd Street, Maine to State

York Street, 3rd to 4th 

4th Street, State to Maine

Kentucky Street, 3rd to 4th        

Maiden Lane, 3rd to 4th                        

Beginning at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010, the following streets will be closed to all traffic.  

3rd Street, Maine to State

4th Street, State to Maine

York Street, 3rd to 4th

Kentucky Street, 3rd to 4th

Maiden Lane, 3rd to 4th 

All through truck traffic should follow any posted detour routes. 

Any vehicles parked in these areas after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning will be towed.  There may also be additional parking restrictions in other areas of the city and temporary street closures.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for both residents and businesses in the affected areas but we hope everyone understands the security requirements that are associated with a presidential visit. 

Please refer to the attached map which illustrates available public parking in the immediate area.  The City has not obtained permission to utilize any private parking lots.  Anyone doing so must obtain permission from the owner/business or their vehicles will be subject to enforcement action and towing at the request of the owner/business.
