GENEVA, ILL. (AP) -- Spring isn't all about sunshine and blooming flowers.

It's also about increasing frequency of tornados in the Midwest.

Emergency officials say it's time for Illinois residents to make sure they're prepared in case tornados and deadly storms strike.

The director of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management, Don Bryant, says families should talk through emergency plans.

And they should make sure they have well-stocked kits with enough food and other supplies for three days.

His office also recommends having an all-hazards NOAA Weather Radio at home.

Officials say a weekend tornado blamed for 10 deaths in Mississippi is a reminder about the destruction spring storms can cause.
