QUINCY, ILL. -- This weekend marked the grand opening of Petco in Quincy.
It's located near the Quincy Mall at the site of what used to be a Kroger grocery store.
The store held its ribbon-cutting on Saturday. Pet lovers and their beloved pets packed into the new business both Saturday and Sunday.
Petco offers grooming and obedience training in addition to offering a plethora of pet supplies.
The store has teamed up with the Quincy Humane Society to help facilitate adoptions. If you adopt a pet through the Quincy Humane Society, you get discounts from Petco.
We spoke with a couple who benefited from that partnership after adopting a dog named Cooper from the humane society this weekend.
Stephanie Demien said, "I think it was great. It got us 10 percent off a lot of stuff we bought and 50 percent off the food for him."
Demien told us she looks forward to the companionship of Cooper and another reason to exercise.
