SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Illinois officials say they've collected more than $100 million in past due child support payments through a program that suspends parents' driver's licenses if they don't pay up.
The program was launched in 2008 as a partnership between the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Secretary of State's office.
The family services department sends warning letters to parents who are delinquent on their payments and who have an Illinois driver's license.
If parents owe more than $2,500 and don't try to notify the department, their names are forwarded to the Secretary of State's office.
If no payments are made, their license is suspended 60 days later.
The program has collected more money so far this fiscal year than in all of last year.
