Distirct wants to make the transition as smooth as possible
HULL, ILL. -- On June 2, the doors of Western Elementary school in Hull will close for good.
Financial troubles at the state level forced the district close the school at the end of this school year and move the students to Barry in the fall.
Once school is out, the district will remove any equipment it needs from the building, then auction the building.
The district also is planning an open house in Barry for students and parents before school starts.
Superintendent Rodger Hannel said, "Rather than rush something here in the spring, let's do it right and get everybody in the spot they're going to be. They'll know their teachers, they'll meet the teacher and the teacher can greet the parents and make that a smoother transition."
There also are plans for an event to honor the history of the school in the community, but those plans have not been finalized.
