(AP) -- An inconclusive election has ended in a political standoff in Britain.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown signaled that his Labour Party would attempt to form a coalition with the Liberal Democrats. But Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg says he'll take his time to decide if his party will make any deals.
Conservative leader David Cameron says Brown has lost his mandate to govern.
Exit polls say the main opposition Conservatives appear likely to claim the most number of seats in Britain's national election Thursday, but not enough to form a government.
Brown pledged action Friday on election reform - a key demand from the Liberal Democrats, Brown's likely partners - and stressed that Britain needed "strong, stable and principled government" to ensure an economic recovery.
