BURLINGTON, IOWA -- The National Weather Service is predicting the Mississippi River to crest in the Burlington area on Sunday at about 16 feet.

At that level, it will only affect low lying buildings in the Montrose and Niota area.

The river has to reach at least 18 feet before damage starts to happen in Burlington, Fort Madison and towns across the river at Dallas City and Pontoosuc.

At 19 feet, there is more a concern for some areas of Burlington and points south.

And when the river gets to 20 and 20 and a half feet, that's when action is taken to protect parts of Dallas City, Pontoosuc and Dallas City.

Right now the river is at about 13 and a half feet.kind of damage if any happened overnight in Lee County.
