SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- State officials say National Nursing Home Week is a time to show gratitude for professional and family caregivers.

The week of recognition ends Saturday.

The theme this year is "Enriching Every Day."

Illinois Department on Aging director Charles Johnson says the week is designed to honor those who help others, particularly those who are ill.

That includes family members, staff and volunteers.

He says with a growing population of older adults, programs and services must evolve to provide the best care possible.
