CHICAGO (AP) -- Former Governor George Ryan has been assigned to serve his racketeering and fraud sentence at a Minnesota prison, but he wants that changed to make it easier for his family to visit.
That's according to former Governor Jim Thompson, who has represented Ryan.
He says Ryan is hoping to be reassigned to the federal prison in Oxford, Wisconsin, instead of Duluth, Minnesota, if his appeal fails.
Under a ruling handed down Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer, Ryan will have to report to prison in four business days if an appeals court denies his quest for a hearing.
Pallmeyer told Thompson that Ryan should start getting his affairs in order.
Ryan's attorneys are trying to get him a rare hearing before all eleven judges of the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
