CHICAGO (AP) -- Motorists should remember to buckle their seat belts during the Memorial Day weekend.

Safety is one good reason. Another: Authorities will be watching.

The Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Police are gearing up to find unbuckled drivers over the holiday weekend.

The goal is to prevent injuries and deaths.

They will target hundreds of safety belt enforcement zones in the state.

Nighttime enforcement will be stressed this year because of deaths on Illinois roads after dark.

Drivers, front-seat passengers and all passengers under age 19 must wear properly adjusted and fastened seat belts.
