Iowa's 2nd District House of Rep. candidate Christopher Reed campaign
KEOKUK, IA. -- The heroes who have fought and worked to make the United States what it is today were saluted in Keokuk Friday, May 28th.
Christopher Reed is the candidate for Iowa's 2nd district of the United States House of Representatives.
He and his Salute to Heroes Campaign is traveling all over Iowa's 2nd district over Memorial Day weekend.
Reed said through this campaign he is asking people to look all throughout the history of the United States at the people who have done great things to shape the country.
He wants people to look at all of those people and then pause.
"Then ask themselves what am I going to do to continue that greatness from here forward. And it starts on June 8th of this year in the primary election. I am in this race because my kids can't fight for themselves. The American Dream is handing over a country to my kids that is as good or better than the country my parents gave to me and their parents gave to them," said Reed.
As part of the Salute to Heroes Campaign, Reed was accompanied by family of some heroes.
David Beamer is the father of Todd Beamer.
Todd Beamer was a passenger on United Flight 93 on September 11th.
He and several other passengers made the decision to try and stop the terrorists from crashing that plane into the White House or the Capitol.
That flight later crashed into a field in Somerset, Pennsylvania.
The other man accompanying Reed was Gregg Garvey, the father of an Army Sergeant killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom six and a half years ago.
Those two men are being honored as heroes on this campaign and are supporting Christopher Reed.
David Beamer said, "There's far too much government control and I'm here to support Christopher Reed because he has a core value system and a belief about proper representation that I believe is proper and vitally needed for our country."
Gregg Garvey said, "He's a dedicated, devoted father, husband and he'll be just as dedicated and devoted. He has high principles, core values which is lacking today in D.C."
