QUINCY, ILL. -- The following is a press release from Quincy Medical Group Healthcare Foundation:

Quincy Medical Group Healthcare Foundation and the Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex are partnering to bring Jackie Joyner-Kersee's message to Quincy's youth.

Thursday, June 3, the two organizations are hosting a free swim for residents of the nearby neighborhoods, and members of the JLSC pool.

As a kick off to the swimming season, neighborhood children and their parents are invited to swim for free from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Foundation members will barbeque, and Jackie speaks at 7:00 p.m., in the ball diamond behind the pool. Quincy Medical Group and Jackie joined forces to ensure that her story of perserverance is shared with area youth who may be facing some of the same challenges that Jackie did when she was young.

"Jackie's personal story of commitment, determination, and humility is a powerful, truthful, and effective message to share with children of today", said Carol Lewis, Executive Director of Operations at Quincy Medical Group, and organizer of the event.

Ben Bumbry Sr., Manager of the JLSC pool, stated "to be a part of this event, and share Jackie's story with the families who use our pool is a very exciting evening for all of us. QMG and JLSC partnered last year to paint the pool and our relationship has continued to flourish throughout the year, and we appreciate Quincy Medical Group reaching out to us to expose neighborhood families to this great female athlete and her accomplishments".

Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex opens for the regular swim season Saturday, June 5.
