PEORIA, ILL. (AP) -- One of three Bradley University soccer players charged with setting a fire that killed a teammate during what authorities say was a prank gone awry has quit the team.
Ryan Johnson said in a letter to Bradley's soccer coach that it is not appropriate to continue on the team in the wake of 19-year-old Sheridan "Danny" Dahlquist's death.
Prosecutors say the Bradley sophomore died in a fire that started when four friends set off roman candles under his bedroom door as a prank after a night of drinking.
Johnson, two other soccer players and another friend were charged with aggravated arson a day after the fire that killed Dahlquist.
None of the Bradley soccer players have participated in practices since the fire, pending a ruling by the university on their status as students.
