SPRINGFIELD, ILL. -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will no longer take reservations for campsites, cabins or picnic shelters through mail or on the phone.
Instead, the department says that starting July 7 reservations for 2010 can be made online for most campsites and other facilities, including 67 Illinois state parks and other state sites.
Online reservations for shelters can be made online for 51 sites.
Department Director Marc Miller says the new online reservation system is more convenient and visitors will "be certain there is a campsite waiting for them."
Reservations require a $5 nonrefundable fee.
