May 14th to May 29th
QUINCY, ILL. -- The following is a press release from the Quincy Police Department:
The Quincy Police Department participated in a MAP detail as part of a grant provided through the Illinois Department of Transportation from May 14th to May 29th.
During this time, officers dedicated approximately 36 hours of patrol to this detail, working the evening/overnight hours, specifically targeting driving while impaired, speeding, and other moving violations.
Click here for a full list of citations and how many were issued.
The primary focus of this grant is to reduce alcohol and speed related accidents and reduce the severity and number of injuries. During this enforcement period, the average speed per citation issued was 11 mph over the posted speed limit. The highest speed was 11 mph over the posted limit, with the lowest speed being 10 mph over the limit. There were two warning tickets issued.
Unfortunately, the results of this detail validate our concerns over traffic safety, particularly in respect to driving while impaired, speeding, and other moving violations. The Quincy Police Department will continue to conduct additional enforcement details in the coming months. Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limit, wear their safety belts, and obey all traffic laws.
