QUINCY, ILL. -- The regular school year is over but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention to school speed zones.

Summer school started June 1st and ends June 25th at Quincy High School, Washington School and Baldwin School.

Quincy Police Departments wants you to remember that the speed limit in speed zones is 20 mph.  That is in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on school days when children are present.  But you are advised to drive 20 mph even when you can't see children.

"The problem is sometimes they may not see the children and the children may be behind a car or something else like that so I would encourage anytime a motorist is in one of those areas that they try and stay as close to 20 mph as possible," Patrol Officer Kevin Pavon said.

Officer Pavon also wants you to remember that it is against the law to talk on a cell phone in school speed zones, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on school days, when children are present.
