SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The Illinois Department of Agriculture says rain has kept soybean farmers out of their fields over the last week but they've still managed to plant almost all their
anticipated crop.

The Department of Agriculture said Monday that about an inch and a half of rain fell on average around the state last week.

Farmers have already planted 91 percent of the 9.5 million acres they're expected to plant this year.

That's well ahead of the same time last year when less than three-quarters of the crop was in the ground.

The Department of Agriculture also says that most of the corn crop is up and growing and that almost three-quarters of it is in either good or excellent condition.
