This week is Men's Health Week in Illinois.
CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Damon Arnold says he wants men across the state to remember the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly and getting medical check ups.
The state department says this week is an effort to raise men's awareness of heart disease, diabetes and prostate, testicular and colon cancers.
State officials say Men's Health Week is annually held the week leading up to Father's Day.
The department cited statistics from the Illinois State Cancer Registry that found that about 9,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in Illinois this year.
The registry estimates 1,300 Illinois men will die from prostate cancer.
