GALESBURG, ILL. (AP) -- Officials say some middle school students in west-central Illinois will be subject to random drug testing in the coming months.
The Galesburg school board has decided to expand its drug testing program to sixth, seventh and eighth graders who are in extracurricular activities.
The district's high school started a similar program last year.
Joel Estes is an assistant superintendent. He says middle school students have been involved with illegal drugs in the past and expanding the program can help them.
The school district has about 4,500 students.
