QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy Regional Airport is holding a public banquet to kick off and announce the start of the Darwin L. McClure Aviation Scholarship.
This scholarship is provided in the name of Darwin L. McClure, a long time resident of Quincy. McClure was a well known corporate pilot and advocate of aviation in the region. In 2007 he was recipient of the Wright Brothers Lifetime award and as attested by his nearly 2,000 hours of instruction given, he truly loved teaching. The scholarship is aimed at continuing his enthusiastic support of involving young people in the field of aviation by helping students enrolled in the aviation program with related expenses.
The banquet will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Quincy Regional Airport Great River Aviation hanger on Friday, June 18th.The airport looks to raise $25,000 for the Darwin L. McClure Aviation Scholarship starting with a fundraiser. Darwin L. McClure’s old airplane, a small two seater, is going to arrive Friday and donation rides will be given before the event.
You can also take a ride before the EAA Annual Fathers Day Banquet at the Quincy Regional Airport at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, June 20th.
Rides are given for a donation and you can ride if you are younger than 7 or older than 17 years of age.
