One suspect in custody
News release from the office of Chief Steve Olinger on Monday, June 21, 2010:
On Monday, June 21, 2010 at approximately 12:37 am, the Macon Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance near the intersection of Third and South Rollins Streets.
Upon arrival, officers located a black male subject in a residential yard in the 100 block of West Third Street with stab wounds.
There was a small group of people around the subject when officers arrived.
The victim was taken by Macon County Ambulance to Samaritan Hospital and later flown by helicopter to University of Missouri Medical Center and is reportedly in critical condition.
The suspect was located on scene and was taken into custody.
Robert L. Cross, 26, of Lawrence, KS, was transported to the Macon Police Department for questioning.
Cross was later processed and transported to the Macon Sheriffs Department, where he is being held pending formal charges of assault.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
