HANNIBAL, MO. -- The following news releases were sent by the Hannibal Arts Council:

The Hannibal Arts Council is preparing for a very exciting exhibit featuring a nationally-known artist Billyo O’Donnell.  Painting Missouri is scheduled to open on Wednesday, June 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 South Main Street.

The public is encouraged to attend.

Painting Missouri is about an exhibit, but also about the even bigger project, a seven-year journey to capture Missouri on canvas and in words.  The culminating project Painting Missouri:  The Counties en Plein Air  involved Billyo O'Donnell and writer Karen Glines, who journeyed for seven years creatively painting and writing about their home state - Missouri.  The journey was not an easy one for it involved Billyo traveling across the state for years during all seasons capturing the right time and place to paint on location or en plein air each of the state's 114 counties and the city of St. Louis and writer Karen Glines spending many hours, weeks, and months researching, writing, interviewing and visiting regions across Missouri.

Painting Missouri will be on exhibit until July 31.  Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to Noon.  Exhibits and Receptions are always free and open to the public.  The Hannibal Arts Council is located at 105 South Main Street.  Major exhibits are sponsored by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. For more information or questions regarding current exhibits, contact the Hannibal Arts Council at (573) 221-6545 or check out their website at www.hannibalarts.com.

The Hannibal Arts Council will present a LIVE @ 105 concert by local singer/songwriter L.A. Suess on Saturday June 26 at 6:00 p.m.  Many will recognize Suess as “the banjo guy” as he performs on the Mark Twain Riverboat and while strolling downtown during the summer months and at festivals.  For this concert Suess departs from his normal repertoire to share his own original songs.

“The Hannibal Arts Council is pleased to spotlight local talented musicians like L.A.  LIVE @ 105 was created for this very purpose - to spotlight local, quality musicians in a wide variety of musical genres, giving them an opportunity to share their talent with appreciative audiences.  It is our hope to present, folk, jazz, singer/songwriter, blues, etc. in a relaxing environment where it is all about the music.  Having the audience surrounded by the art in our galleries is an added bonus and part of the environment we wish to create, as is the approachable and affordable price of $10!” states Michael Gaines, Executive Director of the Hannibal Arts Council.

Admission is $10 per person.  Refreshments are provided.   Reservations are not required.  For more information, contact the Hannibal Arts Council at (573) 221-6545 or reservations@hannibalarts.com.
