DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Scattered thunderstorms are rumbling across Iowa again, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to a soggy state where some rivers are at or near flood state.
In southwest Iowa early Tuesday, storms dumped more than two inches of rain.
In central Iowa, winds of 60 mph were reported near Oskaloosa in Mahaska County.
Storms will diminish, then fire up in the afternoon and evening.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the next few days are critical.
Meteorologist John Haase in Davenport says if there's no widespread, heavy rain, the state will have a chance to dry out beginning on Thursday.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, with the OK from Des Moines, began releasing water more quickly from Saylorville Lake to leave room for future rains.
