SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Authorities will be looking for drunk boaters this weekend as part of a national effort called Operation Dry Water.

Conservation police from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will step up their enforcement efforts.

They'll be targeting boaters under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Operating a boat under the influence is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.

Operation Dry Water was launched last year.

It's a joint effort of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Natural Resource.
