HANNIBAL, MO. -- The following is a press release from the Hannibal Police Department:
Officers of the Hannibal Police Department arrested a Hannibal man at 2:51 Wednesday afternoon following a citizen contact in the 2100 block of Chestnut.
Officers patrolling in the 2100 block of Chestnut observed a man, identified as Kenneth L Woodson, 18 of Hannibal, driving a vehicle on Chestnut whom they believed had an outstanding warrant.
Officers observed the vehicle stop in the alley behind the 2100 block of Chestnut partially blocking the roadway.
As the officer approached the smell of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle.
When the officer requested Woodson to exit the vehicle Woodson opened the door and charged the officer in an attempt to tackle him. The officer defended the attack and pushed Woodson off, drawing his Taser at which point Woodson turned and fled on foot. The officer deployed the Taser striking Woodson and took him into custody without further incident.
A search of Woodson and the vehicle resulted in the discovery of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Woodson was transported to the Hannibal Police Department and later transferred to the Marion County Jail Facility where he was placed on a 24 hour hold for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance (felony), Interfere/Resist Arrest (felony),Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (both misdemeanors).
