SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The Illinois State Fair will pay tribute to the state's agricultural heritage this year with the theme, "Cream of the Crop."
State Fair Manager Amy Bliefnick (BLEEF'-nik) says the fair will showcase the agricultural roots of Illinois while recognizing the state's farmers as "the best of the best."
She says Illinois ranks second among states in the production of both corn and soybeans and fourth in pork.
The fair is Aug. 13-22 in Springfield.
A new attraction is "Farmer's Little Helpers."
It will be a mock farm with miniature barns, corn crib, harvest and seed gardens, a farmers' market and grocery store.
Each building will have hands-on activities to teach kids about farming.
