The Carl Sandburg College Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships for working adults who feel a change in career paths is necessary and would like help with clarifying career goals.
These scholarships are available for the fall 2010 semester to residents of the Carl Sandburg College district who meet each of the following eligibility requirements:
- Completed a CSC general application for admission
- Currently employed 30 hours per week or more
- 25 years of age or older
- Have no prior college experience or have not attended college (in the pursuit of a degree) for five years or more
- Undecided on a career and academic plan
- Able and committed to regularly attend an Occupational Search and Development class, PSY 151, at Carl Sandburg College (Galesburg Campus) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:15 from Aug. 24, 2010, to Dec. 16, 2010
- Possess or have access to reliable transportation
Ten scholarships are available and will provide for the tuition and fees needed for enrollment in PSY 151, Occupational Search and Development. This three-hour college transfer course assists with the process of making a well informed and insightful career decision. In addition, the process of learning how to market one’s self effectively will be explored. Books and supplies for the course total approximately $40 and are not covered by the scholarship.
“I actually was at a crossroads in my life trying to figure out a possible alternative route to take for my profession in life and once I read about what the class was and what it could potentially do for me I was interested in it. I wanted to see what kind of jobs were out there that fit my personality the best,” said CC Wilcox, a CSC student from Galesburg who took the class.

Applications must be received by the Director of the Carl Sandburg College Foundation no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2010.
