QUINCY, ILL. -- The following is a press release from Blessing Hospital:
Blessing Hospital’s inpatient Rehabilitation Services for adults, adolescents and children has been reaccredited by CARF International for a period of three years. This represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization providing inpatient rehabilitative care. Blessing’s inpatient rehabilitation unit has been CARF accredited since 1998.
CARF (Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation undergoes a rigorous peer review process and must demonstrate to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable, and accountable.
“The CARF surveyors who reviewed our program sited as a strength the teamwork and commitment of our staff and physicians,” said Karen Kerns, MS, CCC-SLP, director, Rehabilitation Services, Blessing Hospital. “Policies and procedures are important, but the difference among providers is the quality of the people who deliver the care.”
Blessing Hospital inpatient Rehabilitation Services opened in the 1980s. Today, it is a 18-bed unit providing nursing, physical, occupational and speech-language therapy for people who have lost their independence due to a variety of conditions including stroke, brain trauma, spinal cord injury, amputation and other neurological and orthopedic conditions.
The number of Blessing Rehabilitation patients discharged to home, as opposed to extended care, exceeds the national average.
Blessing’s Rehabilitation Services is affiliated with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), who recently congratulated the department for patient outcomes and satisfaction exceeding those of other RIC affiliates. RIC is the nation’s premier rehabilitation services provider.
